Why many people don’t stick with planning

I miss the discipline

I get told quite often in training and coaching that people don’t keep up with planning. “I miss the discipline and I’m already so‘busy‘”. My answer is that chances are you are busy with the wrong things😉. Because if you don’t make choices about what you are busy with from an overview, chances are you are just randomly doing something. The work will be looking for you instead of the other way around and you will become reactive or lapse into perfectionism. I think that ‘unfortunately’ in the 21st century you can no longer do without a good system if you take work seriously.

So how do you keep up plans?

How then? When I look at sticking with plans, there are 3 factors that make me stick with planning:

  • Planning is easy. I use a simple system. With the Get Shit Done system, the barrier to planning is low. If a task manager like Todoist is too complex then a daily smart task list on paper will do just fine too.
  • You understand the “why” of planning. I know why planning is important to me. The alternative is not planning. By now I know that that degenerates into chaos, burnout and depression.
  • Confidence in small steps using routines. Meanwhile, I am very successful by setting the bar low. I have cultivated my laziness into routines.

Do you have big challenges organizing yourself?
Then make a call appointment to see what system is right for you.
