In this post, we talked about collecting information using AI (the first step in the Get Shit Done system using the VOD method). Here, we’ll discuss AI applications that help with organization.
Every advantage has its disadvantage
By “organizing,” I mean turning input into concrete Next Steps. The problem is that AI is so good at creating to-do lists and plans that it can drive you crazy thinking that carrying them out is just as easy. As Johan Cruijff might have said, “Every advantage has its disadvantage.”
But putting it into practice isn’t always that easy, so the trick is to work with AI to create a list that’s actually achievable —and to do that, you really do have to put your own brain to work for a bit.
The easiest tools for smart organization:
- ChatGPT, simple and lightweight. Feed it a chunk of text in the form of a spoken braindump (for example, using Wisprflow) and have it turn it into a step-by-step plan, for instance with the prompt “turn this into a to-do list.” Make sure the output is realistic; if there are too many tasks or complex steps, it defeats the purpose. ChatGPT can be linked to Todoist to add tasks directly. A prompt like“Set these tasks up in Todoist”is all it takes.
- Claude is more of a heavyweight and is well-suited for complex work processes. One advantage of Claude is that it has great features for organizing different projects. In addition, it can be helpful to organize frequently used actions into “skills,” so you don’t have to use a long series of prompts every time.
Good luck with getting organized.
